She's still getting to know the place and adjusting. It's all new to her, and it's been a really big adjustment. It's the cheapest place and best price I could find, which is why we considered it. But I would say you get what you pay for. They're just coming out of the pandemic too. They're having problems with staffing, just like every place else. I've talked with them about it, and they're working on it. And it's getting better. It's not a bad place. I know that my loved one is safe there. On occasion when I've tried some of the food off her plate, it's been good. I think the main problem…

I've talked with them about it, and they're working on it. And it's getting better. It's not a bad place. I know that my loved one is safe there. On occasion when I've tried some of the food off her plate, it's been good. I think the main problem is they mix the dementia care residents in with the regular elderly care, and that seems to be a problem. I think if they had more staff, that could be more manageable. I just know that all the other places I toured had separate units for memory care vs. regular residents. Also the people who handle the medical are hard to get ahold of. And I wish the doctor had a more pleasant bedside manner. But I don't want to be harsh on Southern Care. The staff there are great. I've become friends with a lot of them. Lockdowns are diminishing, and when I talk to my loved one, she and I have decided to stick it out and see how things change as the world goes back to normal.

Our families experience was just like a disaster horror story. Southern Care is a non corporate community so we thought it was going to be such a great experience for our loved one, however that was not the case. Our loved one moved in well knowing who people were, talking, was coherent, walking around to nothing. Her mental state declined within a week. The facility and room is ugly, they could not keep eyes on our loved one, they could not keep things on track. They come off as an assisted living community, but coming from a medical background 90% of the residents that are memory care. We…

The facility and room is ugly, they could not keep eyes on our loved one, they could not keep things on track. They come off as an assisted living community, but coming from a medical background 90% of the residents that are memory care. We are not blaming the staff since they told us it was assisted living but the care they gave was not adequate. Our loved one fell to many times to count, ending up with scrapes. The hospice team we called in was absolutely wonderful the entire time. There was no night nurses because it was assisted living. Once again nothing bad to say about the staff, they just are not adequate to handle residents who need a lot of assistance.

My Mom lived there two years. During the covid19 lockdown the facility suggested Mom be put on hospice. I asked but was denied visitation with her before making that decision. She was put on hospice Monday and passed away on Friday. Because of Hospice, I was allowed to visit Mom as she was dying and right after. I wasn’t allowed to see her before making the decision about Hospice but when I asked about cleaning out her room, I was told I could come anytime. No problem at all! I could come and go as much as I needed. That never made since to me. The Director never came out of his office to…

I could come and go as much as I needed. That never made since to me. The Director never came out of his office to give condolences or to ask if I needed help moving the boxes, etc. No card from the facility, etc. Missing items wasn’t unusual there but when moving Mom’s things out, I made a two page list and I doubt that was all that was missing. Disappointed.

I had a client friend at Southern Care II. I was his power-of-attorney agent, and I pulled him out of there because it was terrible. To be honest, it sounded silly, but I would buy him a case of Pepsi, and it would be gone within three days. He actually started going really downhill. The care was just awful, but the food was good. They need to improve on everything except for the food.

They treated my mom like she was a member of the family, they were so kind and they communicated well with the family especially during the pandemic. I would definitely recommend this community to others.

Southern Care is a great facility. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I would recommend them to a friend. They are cost-effective. My sister likes the food. They have a big porch with rockers in the front and other space in the back. The room sizes are of a good size.

Really good visit today!!

SC doesn’t have that corporate feel like NHC. Having experience at both places, SC is more of a family relaxed environment.
