I wouldn’t recommend this places. No communication, no calls back. We never got a call back from the Dr. lack of communication between staff. No notification that our mother had fallen. When we called to speak to our mother it was always a hassle. It was always something. They need to be sure to place the call on hold heard frustration when we called. This place was not helpful at all. We finally paid a transport company to get our mother to another state. Since returning home and proper care from her physician she is thriving. They never had a plan to get our mother where she needed to be to…

Not sure why my review was deleted from February 2025 I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone not even my dog for the skilled part. The communication part is horrible. They don’t relay messages we waited 3 weeks and still waiting for someone to call us back to get an update on our mother as we had planned since day one to get her home. We wanted to speak to the dr cause we had concerns when I brought it to their attention we were told that the dr don’t usually call family back unless it’s life changing. I called to speak to my mother on Christmas Eve and the phone just rang and rang and…

We wanted to speak to the dr cause we had concerns when I brought it to their attention we were told that the dr don’t usually call family back unless it’s life changing. I called to speak to my mother on Christmas Eve and the phone just rang and rang and then went to playing music I was on hold for 10 mins hung up and called back and no one answered. Many times while calling to speak to my mother the people on the phone seemed so frustrated that they had to help. There were a good couple people working there. When I would call and ask for an update only thing I would get was a she’s doing good. When I went into more of a detail how she’s been they would say oh I don’t know I haven’t been to see her yet or we haven’t seen the physical therapist down there. The whole intention was getting our mother back home to another state. We finally pulled the trigger and hired a transportation company to move my mother. Two days before her transport date I called to speak to my mother they people at the front desk forgot to put the phone on hold . While waiting to speak to my mother I could her a guy and two female voices talking about my mother. The male voice was telling them that she will need to be ready at 8am on Sunday and that she is leaving and could be hearing saying whoohoo. I could hear one of the females kinda chuckled and saying they will have my mother waiting at the front door and laughed.I could hear the male guy stating yeah then spent $$$$$$ saying the amount we had spent and couldn’t believe it. They soon put the call on hold. This places isn’t a rehab place to get your loved one home it’s a nursing home to be told that the doctor doesn’t usually call families back is something I never in my life heard of. We live out of state and made 5 trips to TN in 4 months spending a week or more trying to get my mother healthy enough to get back home. I have everything documented when I tried getting hold of someone to speak about her heath so we could get prepared I never received one call my mother spent 30 days in ICU prior to this and was back in the hospital 2 times after during her stay between both skilled. She’s been through a lot and we know our mother has lots of life left in her. I don’t recommend this place unless you can keep constant watch on your loved one. I have many other incidents if anyone needs to know. Now the good the place was clean there were a couple of great nurses wish I could remember the sweet little ones name you could tell she loved her job. The case worker did good. I am still waiting for the man administrator to call me back again no call. I did find out that the night shift isn’t as helpful as the day shift. There also was a hateful lady who approached us the first day we arrived didn’t even introduce herself but was out right hateful telling us about a incident that had occurred with our mother. My mother may have been in the wrong but her storming in the room not introducing herself was unprofessional not even asking if she could talk to us aside. I again wouldn’t recommend this place it’s a nursing home. They want your money and be aware and pay close attention to all claims filed we are in the process of appealing some. We also were told our mother fell and never received a call and was told she had shingles as that’s why she didn’t have PT for a few days after that our mother was sent back to the hospital and was told by the hospital that our mother didn’t have shingles. When I asked they said no she was exposed to shingles. Still can’t get a answer on that. Please be aware of this place. Up date our mother is thriving and living with family no doubt it’s cause we got her the proper care. The Liska Family
This place is not good mom stayed here and she was not treated the best hit call lights no nurses come help 😡
I was so embarrassed when I walked in Elk River Nursing Home on Memorial Drive. it was so pathetic. It was so nasty. If my mom or my grandparent were there, they'd be out in no time. It's not fit for a dog. Patients are declining bc it's all about money and not the health of a patient. Understand it's a nursing home but why give patients a raw deal? Would you want your mother, father, sister, brother, or someone related to you live in that filth? Next time I go there, I'm taking tons of pictures and it will go in the newspaper. Peg Wallace is a great person. She loves and cares about her patients. She goes above and beyond her call of duty to care and go out of her way to help patients. She's helped patients learn to walk again when there was very little hope. When you go to Elk River, look Peg up and give her a hug for her great work. Do something special for her. She made a world of difference to the patients. I know she deserves some kind of recognition for her work at Elk River. The patients and their families love and adore her.
My mother has only been here since Saturday evening of June 21st but the team here has been phenomenal. Every single person I have met has been so attentive to my mother’s needs and helping us as we start the transition to home hospice. It’s the small things that have a big effect on me, just by them talking to her & being sweet to her means the world. I am thankful for this team as we navigate into a new season of life. This is a team you can truly depend on.

My father was at Elk River Health and Nursing Center of Winchester for skilled nursing after his hospital stay. It's more of a rehabilitation/skilled nursing, and it's two to a room. They do rehabilitation like physical, occupational, and speech. That's where a lot of inpatients that need rehabilitation after their hospital stay go initially. They were very expensive. My dad didn't like the food there, and he said that one of the techs was not very kind to him and would rough handle him. He didn't like that. My mother got upset with them because they tried to put other medications on my father, which made him drowsy, and he wasn't getting much rehabilitation because of it. My dad wasn't going to be happy there. He wanted to get out of there. Of course, they wanted him out, too. It's more of a nursing home than assisted living because that's exactly what it is. They're in the bed. The bad thing about it is you got all these nurses and techs, but if they don't have the rehabilitation people there working with them to get them up, they're just laying in bed and they're getting the medications and all of that. If I got older, I would not want to go there. Some staff members were OK and some were not. They're supposed to provide a high level of care. It's very expensive, but the value of what they get is not good. Medicare was paying for him for up to 100 days, so my dad didn't have to pay when he was there. When my mother asked them, "Should he have to stay beyond that, how much would it cost?" They said it would be about $109,000 a year based on what my dad's needs were. That's a whole lot of money. You have techs, nurses, and rehabilitation people, so there were lots of high-level staff. Elk River, for that kind of money for what he was getting, not liking the food, and then one or two people rough handling him, then that's a 1 on value.
Obviously the past reviews aren't from patrons nor family members of patients there ... Pretty discouraging... Also a fake way to up your ratings
