Alexander Guest House is an amazing community with so much history. As a native Oak Ridger I truly appreciate what they have done there! The residents and staff are wonderful and they have the best Activities Director that you could ever find. She is so creative and super sweet and good to the residents that live there.
The facility is beautiful. Each and every person go above and beyond for the residents. They have a wonderful activities program and their director goes an extra mile in every aspect. They have made me feel included from the beginning.
At Alexander Guest House, the memory care was segregated from the rest of the place. The outside architecture was quite nice except the memory care part was more like a simple concrete box. The rooms were decent in both assisted living and memory care. It's an older facility. The building dates from World War II. I grew up in Oak Ridge, and sometimes we'd go dine there. It was a very nice restaurant at one time. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. It had kind of a nice homey atmosphere. I like its location close to Jackson Square. It was a very nice restaurant at one time. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. It had kind of a nice homey atmosphere. I like its location close to Jackson Square. It's within walking distance. I liked it. It costs about as much as the ones in Knoxville that I visited. It might be at least $500 less a month. The staff during the tour was pleasant and competent. I'm thinking I might try the respite care there. They welcomed my wife and me to come and have a meal with them to check that out. It seemed quite clean. I liked the part of the building that the assisted living is in, its classic architecture of that time and place. The memory care and assisted living were both clean and the rooms were adequate, if not more than adequate. The memory care was limited compared to the assisted living.
Yes I would recommend. They need more outdoor time just strong outside world be so beneficial. This place along with most right now is very short staffed and work their employees to much with had resulted in staff change which isn't good for memory care patients. It's always clean in common areas but the individual rooms aren't kept as clean. Meals are generally the same weekly and bland. Limited outdoor activities due to short staff. Overall I would pick the place again.
My mother-in-law has been in Alexander Guest House for almost five years now. When we first went in, the management was wonderful and they had health care round the clock. It was a well-run situation. The manager then moved up into the company, and the current manager who took over afterward is petty, very arrogant, and won't listen. They are cost-cutting to the point that the food is minimal at best. We're not happy with them. After 10:00, there is no nurse or medical staff on the site. It's just kind of sad when we need them at night. Their option is to go to the hospital, and that's not always an appropriate option. The current manager doesn't do any continual housekeeping to be able to take care of issues. The air conditioners are not always working appropriately. They've had to put in window units. The heat is intermittent. The help staff are generally good, except they don't stay a few months because they get so frustrated trying to deal with the current manager so they leave. Their turnover is excessive, so it's just really a difficult situation. There's little relationship that is able to be developed with the residents because they don't stay. They have a new lady who has come in for activities though and she seems to be somewhat better and offering things that are more appropriate for the residents' age.
Beautiful building, wonderful residents and super easy job for LPN. Literally the medication pass is dummy proof!
Nice community and staff. The community had too many floors for my loved one.
Alexander Guest House is a much more home-like atmosphere. You don't feel like you're in a facility because of the way they have everything laid out. It is a facility that came from remodeling, it's a historical hotel but they have done an excellent job of putting everything in place and having made it seem more like a house. There were several areas where you're feeling more like you're at home, so I like their common areas. I like the fact that their memory care facility is on the first floor. And I like that the rooms that I looked at, all of them had a large window that looked out onto a courtyard, and the area was very pleasant to look out to. They had a private dining room area where residents can have their families, like if they just want to have dinner. It's very appealing to me. They have amenities, they provide transportation, they provide subscription management to a local pharmacy. So we would have to get the coordination between my husband's Medicare Advantage Plan and that. I didn't try the food but the menus looked good. The rooms for this facility were much smaller, although they were also suite-like. They have the bathrooms and the rooms. I like that they provide the furniture if you don't want to bring furniture. They'd provide the bed, a dresser, a nightstand, and a lamp, then you can add what you want to bring for your family member. That's a plus as far as I was concerned.
